On January 25, 2024 in a solemn atmosphere in the House of Friendship in Aktau, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Justice presented to the Association of Association of Legal Entities and Individual Entrepreneurs "Adai" breeding horse breed" a patent for breeding achievement, confirming the exclusive right to the breed "Adai" horse. Thus, the special properties of the Kazakh horse breed "Adai" were legally fixed.
In November 2022, during his working visit to Mangistau region, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to carry out scientific recognition of the Adai horse as an independent breed. In this regard, specialists from the Kazakh Research Institute of Animal Husbandry and Forage Production arrived in Mangistau. With the application of modern technologies, the experts conducted scientific approbation to determine the genetic structure of horses.
Deputy Director of the National Institute of Intellectual Property Aydyn Artykova took part in the awarding ceremony and patent presentation, noting in her congratulatory speech that the National Institute of Intellectual Property is always on the lookout for the protection and defense of national brands. In addition to Almaty Aport, registered as a geographical indication, Kazpatent also patented the horse breed "Adai". Its scientific approach and compliance with patentability criteria such as novelty, distinctiveness, homogeneity and stability allowed it to become a national brand. In addition to exclusive rights, the patent owner is granted a 30-year term of protection. The patents are granted not only for the "Adai" breed itself, but also for 2 types and 3 breeding lines. The results of many years of research work to identify and fix the features of the Kazakh horse Adai breed are now legally protected - this will provide horse breeders with additional mechanisms for the preservation, breeding and promotion of the Adai breed, as well as promote the popularization of national games, including Kokpar and Baige.
The Kazakh horse of the Adai breed was bred on the basis of many years of folk breeding of the local horse population in the Aral-Caspian lowlands. Horses of this breed are well adapted to severe local natural and climatic conditions and have excellent exterior features, strong constitution, exceptional endurance, absolute adaptability to the conditions of maintenance.
The Kazakh horse of Adai breed has demonstrated its unique features at many national and international competitions.
The head of the region Nurlan Nogaev stressed that obtaining a patent for the Kazakh horse breed "Adai" reflects the strategic importance in preserving and promoting national values, thus supporting the development of breeding programs and contributing to strengthening the status of this breed as a national brand.
"On the instructions of the President, work has been carried out thanks to which the Kazakh horse of the Adai breed is now the national brand of Kazakhstan. This is an important achievement that evokes a sense of pride. Our main goal is to preserve our national identity by respecting the heritage of our ancestors. State recognition opens up prospects for preserving the breed, including unique genetic properties and cultural heritage, developing breeding programs and improving the quality of the breed. This status will also support participation in international programs and attraction of tourists", - also noted the head of the region.
