QAZPATENT BRANCH IN ALMATY HELD SEMINAR ON «LEGAL PROTECTION OF PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION MEANS IN THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN»

From 23 to 25 July 2025, a three-day training seminar on «Legal protection of personal identification devices in the Republic of Kazakhstan», organized by the Training Center of the Qazpatent Branch, was held in Almaty. The seminar was attended by experts in the field of intellectual property, business representatives, legal companies, scientific and educational organizations. The programme of the event was aimed at comprehensively studying the legal regulation of trade marks, industrial designs, geographical indications and designations of places of origin of goods.

The Director of Qazpatent Branch Orynbekova Zaura addressed the participants with a welcome speech, noting the key role of personalization tools in today’s competitive market environment and the importance of their proper legal protection.

The seminar covered the following topics:

• national and international trademark registration;
• examination of applications, refusals and maintenance of state registries;
• features of the protection of geographical indications and Appellation of origin;
• application and patenting procedures for industrial samples, including the Eurasian system;
• unfair trademark, counterfeiting and court practice;
• customs protection of IP rights and abuse of rights.

Particular attention was given to the practical aspects, including case analysis, searching in Qazpatent and Madrid Monitor databases, preparation of applications as well as typical errors during registration.

Speakers and invited experts included:

• Modangul Tagbergenova -  President of the Chamber of Patent Attorneys of Kazakhstan;
• Zhanat Nurmagambetov - partner of «Bolotov & Partners LLP»;
• Almas Bekbotaev - chief specialist of the department for intellectual property rights, press secretary of the Department of Justice in Almaty;
• as well as experts and managers of the Qazpatent branch.

Participants received valuable practical recommendations, answers to relevant questions and certificates.
