Qazpatent Hosts High-Level Meeting of IP Offices from China and Central Asia with Participation of WIPO

On June 17, 2025, Qazpatent hosted a high-level meeting of heads of intellectual property (IP) offices from Central Asian countries and the People's Republic of China, with the participation of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
The event was organized by the Committee on Intellectual Property Rights of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Qazpatent. It served as an important regional platform for discussing prospects for international cooperation in the field of intellectual property.
Prior to the official program, the foreign delegations took part in a guided tour of Qazpatent. The guests were introduced to the main areas of the institute’s work, including examination of IP rights, development of digital services, research and analytics. The participants also had the opportunity to meet with Qazpatent experts and staff directly involved in building and strengthening Kazakhstan’s IP system.
Welcoming remarks were delivered by Botagoz Zhaxelekova, Vice-Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Dr. Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA); and Mr. Habip Asan, Director of the Department for Transition and Developed Countries at WIPO (online).
During the meeting, representatives from Kazakhstan, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Republic of Tajikistan presented overviews of their national IP systems and shared their strategic priorities. Discussions focused on topics such as digitalization, improving the quality of patent services, human capital development, and strengthening international and interagency cooperation.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of a joint statement reaffirming the participants’ commitment to deepening regional collaboration, sharing best practices, and promoting innovation through effective IP protection.
