WIPO Regional Conference

The Republican State Enterprise "National Institute of Intellectual Property" (Qazpatent), under the Committee on Intellectual Property Rights of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, invites you to participate in a series of international events organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), supported by the Japan Patent Office (JPO), and the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO), with the participation of representatives from the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). These events are aimed at fostering innovation ecosystems and promoting intellectual property (IP) in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

These events provide participants with a unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge of innovations, exchange experiences with leading global experts, and establish strategic partnerships. Confirmed participants include representatives from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Belarus, as well as rectors of leading Kazakhstani universities and representatives of national companies. This demonstrates the high importance of the topics and the broad interest in intellectual property and innovation ecosystem development.

Objectives:

  • Enhance the capacity of university commercialization offices and tech parks;
  • Support their activities in WIPO member countries;
  • Facilitate international cooperation and exchange of best practices.

Program Highlights:

Participants will hear from leading experts, participate in masterclasses and panel discussions with renowned speakers, including:

  • Mr. Michael Mbogoro, Head of Technology Transfer Section, IP and Innovation Ecosystems Sector, WIPO;
  • Ms. Olga Spasic, Technology Transfer Consultant, WIPO;
  • Mr. Frédéric Caillaud, former Deputy Director General for Innovation, French Patent Office, and former Director of Licensing and Business Development at L’Oréal Paris, France;
  • Mr. Kosuke Kato, Associate Professor, Bureau of Knowledge Co-Creation, Osaka University, Japan.

Topics will focus on:

  • Innovative tools to support inventive activity;
  • Best practices in technology commercialization;
  • The role of tech parks in strengthening the innovation economy.

The events will take place from December 3 to 6, 2024, at the Qazpatent office (57A Mangilik El Street, Astana) with online participation options.

1. WIPO Regional Meeting on the Development of Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs)

  • Dates: December 3–4, 2024
  • Time: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Topics:
    • Development of TISCs;
    • New digital platforms for patent search and analysis.
  • Organizers: WIPO and Qazpatent with the support of JPO.

2. WIPO and EAPO Regional Meeting for Tech Parks

  • Dates: December 5–6, 2024
  • Time: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Topics:
    • Attracting investments in technologies;
    • Strategies for intellectual property commercialization.
  • Organizers: WIPO and EAPO with the support of Qazpatent.
