On May 28, 2024, the first day of a two-day joint training seminar between Qazpatent and the Japan Patent Office (JPO) started.
The seminar was opened with welcoming remarks by Qazpatent Director Yerbol Ospanov, Head of the International Cooperation Division of JPO Yoshino Sachiyo, as well as Deputy Director of the Department of Intellectual Property Rights of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan (DIPR) Marina Sirotina.
The first day of the seminar is planned to be devoted to the exchange of experience between experts of the two patent offices in the field of trademarks and patent examination. Qazpatent was represented by Deputy Head of the Department of Trademarks, Geographical Indications, AOs and Industrial Designs Ayagul Abitbekova, Head of the Department of Inventions, Utility Models and Selection Achievements Altynay Batyrbekova, who introduced the peculiarities of examination in Kazakhstan.
JPO, for its part, covered the main points of patent examination and trademark examination in Japan.
The second day will be devoted to discussing anti-counterfeiting measures. Specialists from DIPR, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan will be involved in the dialogue. It is planned to discuss both legal and practical aspects of the fight against counterfeiting.
The joint seminar is being held within the framework of the signed Memorandum of Cooperation between Qazpatent and JPO in 2023 in Geneva during the WIPO General Assembly.
