Almaty, Kazakhstan - The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Summer School opened today, September 18, 2023 at the International University of Information Technology (IUIT). The two-week Summer School is organized by Qazpatent with the support of WIPO and is being held in Kazakhstan for the second time.
The event was opened by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan Azamat Yeskaraev, who shared the interest of the participants in the development of intellectual property as a tool for economic, social, cultural and technological development.
Mr. Ilya Gribkov, Head of the WIPO Caucasus, Central Asia and Eastern Europe Section, welcomed the participants on behalf of WIPO.
Mr. Askar Hikmetov, Chairman of the Board, Rector of IITU, noted the importance and relevance of the WIPO Summer School, which is held at the university. Mr. Yerbol Ospanov, Director of Qazpatent, presented information about the activities and main indicators of the patent office of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In turn, Eugenia Daineko, PhD, Associate Professor and Vice-Rector for Global Cooperation and Further Education, spoke about the projects of the MUIT and further plans.
The opening ceremony witnessed the signing of the Agreement on the opening of the Technology and Innovation Support Center at MUIT. This is another WIPO initiative aimed at raising awareness in the field of legal protection of intellectual property results and patent research through training in this area.
It should be noted that the educational program of the School includes lectures on various aspects of intellectual property (IP): IP valuation, branding, intangible asset management, technology transfer and protection, licensing, copyright and related rights, patents and innovation, trademarks, IP enforcement, as well as other topical issues in this area.

The first day of the Summer School ended with an excursion to the Science and Technology Park of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
