Kazakhstan delegation participates in the 64th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO

The sixty-fourth series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO is taking place at WIPO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. From July 6 to 14, delegates from 193 WIPO member states gather to discuss the future of the global intellectual property (IP) ecosystem and WIPO's activities to promote the economic, social and cultural development of all countries. The assembly includes meetings of the WIPO General Assembly, as well as 17 other Assemblies, the Berne Union Executive Committee and the WIPO Coordination Board.

The delegation of Qazpatent headed by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan Azamat Yeskaraev takes part in the Assembly.

On July 5, 2023, in the framework of the 64th series of meetings of the WIPO Assemblies, the Delegation met with the Director General of WIPO, Mr. Daren Tang. The meeting with the Delegation of Kazakhstan was also attended by Mr. Hassan Kleib, Deputy Director General of WIPO, and Mr. Habip Asan, Director of the Division for Countries in Transition and Developed Economies. During the meeting Mr. Azamat Yeskarayev highlighted the priority tasks of multilateral cooperation and prospects for further development. Special attention was paid to the tasks of interaction with subjects of innovation activity, and highlighting the results of joint work to promote the promising Geographical Indication (GI) of Almaty apples "Aport".  

In his speech on July 6, Minister of Justice of Kazakhstan Mr. Azamat Yeskaraev noted that Kazakhstan attaches great importance to the protection and defense of intellectual property rights and is working to improve the national system of registration of patents, trademarks, industrial designs.

July 7, Qazpatent delegation headed by Director Mr. Yerbol Ospanov signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Japan Patent Office (JPO), which provides for the exchange of experience on infrastructure and development of interaction between offices and IP users. The parties warmly welcomed each other, exchanged information on the latest trends in the work and outlined a prospective cooperation plan. The Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO), Mr. HAMANO Koichi, noted the importance and relevance of the Memorandum to be signed.

On the same day a Memorandum between Qazpatent and the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office was signed. Head of UKIPO Mr. Adam Williams noted that the exchange of experience and development of cooperation will contribute to the expansion of economic cooperation in attracting advanced British investment companies and protection of intellectual property. The Director of Qazpatent noted the importance of the development of the intellectual property system in Kazakhstan and offered Qazpatent's platform to discuss topical issues in the field of IP.

The third Memorandum was signed with the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (COPAT). There was an exchange of views on topical issues on the agenda and discussion of further development of relations between the patent offices. Mr. Sanan TAPDYGOV, Member of the Agency's Management Board, expressed the Office's commitment to expand further cooperation.

During the Assemblies a meeting was held between the Director Mr. Yerbol Ospanov and the Chairman of TURKPATENT Mr. Cemil BASPINAR. During the meeting the parties noted the positive dynamics of bilateral relations and discussed joint activities under the previously signed Memorandum of Cooperation.
