From 20 to 24 March 2023 a delegation from Qazpatent, headed by the director of the office, Yerbol Ospanov, visited the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office in Ankara (Türkpatent).
On the first day of the visit a meeting was held with the President of Türkpatent, Mr. Cemil Başpınar. The Heads of Offices discussed the growing bilateral cooperation under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Offices in 2021 and exchanged views on the crucial steps to be taken in the field of Turkic IP integration. The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere and the head of Türkpatent was offered a tour of the office.
Deputy Director Aydyn Artykova gave an overview of Qazpatent's role in IP development in Kazakhstan. A presentation on the main directions of Türkpatent's activities was also delivered by the Turkish side. The second and third days were devoted to the procedures for patent and trademark examination, examination of geographical indications and industrial designs in Turkey. There were also modules on the opposition procedure for objects; on the system and activities of the Board of Appeal; on the quality management system.
In addition to the basic modules, information was provided regarding the intellectual property valuation implemented by TURKSMD. The exchange programme was of a high quality. In addition, the Kazakh delegation visited the METU TEKNOKENT Technopark of Middle East Technical University (METU), the largest technical university in Turkey. The Technopark's residents presented cutting-edge developments in biotechnology and medicine that have been successfully used around the world.
