Symposium on Geographical Indications in Antalya

From 24 to 25 November, the city of Antalya (Turkey) hosted a symposium on the topic " Strengthening Business Competitiveness of Origin-based Quality Products through Protection of Geographical Indications at the National and International Levels", organized by the Turkish Patent Office in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization, patent offices of Georgia and Azerbaijan.

From the Patent Office of Kazakhstan, Deputy Director of the Republican State Enterprise "National Institute of Intellectual Property" of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ms. Aidyn Artykova and Head of the Department for Intellectual Property Rights of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan Adil Ismagulov took part.

The seminar is attended by representatives of the European Patent Office, the patent offices of Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan.

The event began with an exhibition of local producers of products protected as geographical indications.

The symposium was opened with a welcoming speech by the President of the Turkish Patent Office Mr. Cemil Başpinar. Director of the WIPO Division for Transitional and Developed Countries Prof. Dr. Habib Asan, Deputy Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Ms. Nino Chikovani also delivered a welcoming speech, while Mr. Imanov Kamran Sultan oglu, Chairman of the Board of the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, took part online.

The symposium discussed issues related to the specifics of the protection and protection of geographical indications, their use, commercialization and successfully implemented practices for their promotion.
