A Regional Workshop on Patents and Electronic Filings Systems took place in Tashkent

On 17-18 May 2017, the Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), held a Regional Workshop on Patents and Electronic Filings Systems. Arsultan Nursapa, the head of Division on patent information and automation of examination stages, took part as a representative of the National Institute of Intellectual Property.
The aim of the seminar was to familiarize the participants with WIPO activities on the development of the intellectual property system in countries with economies in transition, the protection and use of patents, the international patent system of the PCT and the use of the ePCT system, and the improvement of services in the field of patent protection through the development of IT tools. In particular, the simplification of patent protection in the national patent system, the introduction of an electronic system for filing, receiving and examination of applications, analysis and study of foreign experience in this field.
During the seminar, employees of WIPO and EAPO, representatives of the countries participating in the seminar widely covered the issues of the international patent system of PCT and other online tools of WIPO, the regional patent protection system, EAPO's electronic services and products; Problems and prospects in the development of the national patent system in Uzbekistan and other countries were discussed.
At the seminar, the representative of WIPO demonstrated to participants the ePCT system and the implementation of working processes for PCT applications. The EAPO representative also talked about electronic services of the Eurasian Patent Organization.
WIPO offers PCT applicants, patent attorneys and other users the ePCT web interface for online filing and working on international patent applications.
Issues to ensure high-quality service to users of the patent system in other countries, such as Japan, Korea, Russia and Ukraine were discussed during the seminar. Also, foreign experience in electronic filing, acceptance and examination of applications was studied, problems of electronic filing of applications were considered, and experience was exchanged between specialists of foreign countries.
