Production meeting on 2017 full-year results was held

On 23rd of February production meeting was held on work results of the National Institute of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the meeting work results of 2017 were summed up and have been determined priorities for 2018.

Particular attention was paid to the discussion of planned measures aimed at the implementation of the State of the Nation Address by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, January 10, 2018 and the fulfillment of instructions of the Minister of Justice, given at the expanded meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Justice on work results 2017.

Mr. Yerbol Ospanov, Director of the National Institute of Intellectual Property, noted that in general 2017 was a year of fruitful and intensive work for the Institute. Examination services provided by the Institute have been improved, as well as workflow processes have been automated and a development of staff professional skills have been provided.

In 2017, the number of applications received for the registration of industrial property objects increased by 2.5% compared to the previous year. The number of applications for inventions increased by 0.6%, utility models - by 16.3%, for selection achievements - by 94%, for trademarks - by 0.8%, for appellations of origin - by 100%. The growth of applications for inventions filed under PCT and Eurasian procedures (by 52% and 101.8%, respectively) was recorded. The share of applications filed electronically increased by 47.5%.

In general, the number of applications received for the provision of government services, in the process of which the National Institute of Intellectual Property participates in, increased by 2.5%.

In connection with intellectual property market growth, the share of registered licensing agreements (by 9.7%) and contracts for a complex entrepreneurial license (by 8.3%) increased. The number of patents granted for utility models has increased (by 2.4%).

Mr. Yerbol Ospanov noted that qualitative and timely provision of examination services will remain the main priority for the National Institute of Intellectual Property in 2018. The Institute’s digitization will be continued. Thus, it is planned to develop an electronic interaction with the applicants, as well as the transferring of services into the electronic format.

The 2018 plan of the National Institute of Intellectual Property contains the development of an intelligent search program that operates on the principle of neural networks. Its implementation will improve the quality of the trademark examination process of and reduce the time of such examination.

In order to develop the institute of intellectual responsibility and promote the commercialization of new technologies in the Republic of Kazakhstan the National Institute of Intellectual Property will continue to take an active part in law-explaining work and will make efforts to develop a partnership with domestic innovative companies.

Concluding the production meeting, Mr. Yerbol Ospanov gave a number of specific instructions to the heads of departments, divisions and subdivisions.
