A webinar for representatives of SMEs was held

On September 22, 2021, a webinar was held for representatives of SMEs on the topic "Regional brand as a tool for promoting a local product".

The purpose of these events is to familiarize SMEs with such an object of intellectual property as Appelation of origin (AOI)and with some aspects of theAOIregistration procedure.

Akimats and entrepreneurs of the cities of Nur-Sultan and Shymkent, Akmola, Aktobe and Almaty regions took part in the webinar.

AOIare special tools in promoting local products, as well as in increasing the economic potential of the region and even individual countries, the development of the tourism industry, gastronomic tourism, which subsequently has a favorable effect on the economy of these countries.

During the webinar, Kazpatent experts provided information on the procedure for submitting applications and registeringAIOin the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Akimat of the Almaty region has proposed examples for the registration of suchAOIas: pear of the "Talgarka" variety, Aksu sugar, Turgen wine.

Following the results of the webinar, an agreement was adopted on further joint work on submitting applications for registration ofAOI.

• Registration ofAOIhas a number of advantages. One of the most important is the possibility of additional registration of the granting of an exclusive right to a previously registered name of the place of origin of the goods. If theAOIis already registered, the manufacturer wishing to obtain exclusive rights to it can apply to Kazpatent. After successful verification of the goods or services to the requirements of theAOI, information on registration will be entered in the State Register of appellation of origin of the Republic of Kazakhstan and published in the official bulletin.
