For the first time in Central Asia, a Master's degree programme on "Intellectual Property and Business Law" will be launched

On 15 May 2024, Maqsut Narikbayev University hosted an important event within the framework of the "National Seminar on Intellectual Property (IP) Education and Skills Development" organised by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). During this event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on the launch of a joint Master's degree programme on "Intellectual Property and Business Law" between WIPO, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Maqsut Narikbayev University.

This master's programme will be the first and only one in the Eurasian region. To date, similar joint WIPO programmes have been launched in only 14 countries around the world, including Argentina, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Cameroon, China, Italy, Korea, Singapore, India, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey, Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe.

The signing ceremony of the Memorandum was held at Maqsut Narikbayev University. The signatories were WIPO Director General Tang D., Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan Eskaraev A.N., Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat N. and Chairman of the Board of Maqsut Narikbayev University Narikbayev T.M..

Within the framework of the signed Memorandum, a Master of Laws (LL.M) programme in the field of intellectual property and business law will be launched in Kazakhstan for the first time on September 1, 2024.

In addition, as part of the event, representatives of WIPO, government authorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Maqsut Narikbayev University held a joint international seminar on education and skills development in the field of intellectual property.

This event represents a new stage in the development of intellectual property in Kazakhstan and opens new perspectives for students and professionals in this field.
