Qazpatent hosted a seminar on "Legal Protection of Designs and Development of the System of Legal Protection of Industrial Designs in the Eurasian Region" in Astana. The event was organized by Qazpatent and the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) and was held in a hybrid format.
Mr. Grigory Ivliev, President of the Eurasian Patent Office, opened the event with a welcoming speech and noted the importance of the development of the system of protection of industrial design rights in the region, as well as the interaction between regional and national patent offices.
Sholpan Abdreeva, Director of the Department of Intellectual Property Rights, thanked the organizers of the seminar and noted that the signing of the historic document - the Protocol on the Protection of Industrial Designs to the Eurasian Patent Convention was an important step towards the creation of a unified system of legal protection of design in Eurasia.
The speakers of the seminar were representatives of the Eurasian Patent Office: Asemgul Abenova, Head of the Industrial Designs Division of the Examination Department, Sergey Averkiev, Head of the Examination Department, Denis Zastavny, Head of the Information Technologies Department, as well as Qazpatent experts Gulnara Belgozhina, Head of the Department of Trademarks, Geographical Indications, Appellations of Origin and Industrial Designs, and Azat Nakenov, Deputy Head of Division of Trademarks, Geographical Indications and Appellations of Origin. The seminar was moderated by Altynai Taisheva, Head of the Department of Expertise of Trademarks, geographical indications and appellations of origin of goods.
The seminar discussed topical issues of legal protection of design, peculiarities of the procedure for patenting industrial designs and the prospects for the development of this system in the Eurasian region, as well as the intersection of rights to industrial designs and trademarks, copyright objects.
At the end of the seminar, the parties expressed their desire to continue cooperation in this direction.
