On February 1, 2019, representatives of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan and NIIP visited Nazarbayev University to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation.
The meeting was opened by the Vice-President for Innovation of Nazarbayev University Yerden Kussain, Provost of Nazarbayev University Ilesanmi Adesida, Adviser to the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Kuantyrov and Director of NIIP Yerbol Ospanov, who stressed the importance of developing cooperation between the Institute as a national patent office and the University as a leading university of Kazakhstan.
Yerbol Ospanov and Ilesanmi Adesida signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between NIIP and Nazarbayev University. As part of the Memorandum, the parties intend to cooperate in the development of an innovative economy, increasing human capital and the production of high-tech knowledge in Kazakhstan.
Following the signing of the Memorandum, NIIP held a Workshop on Intellectual Property Registration for the staff and students of Nazarbayev University.
NIIP representatives gave a brief introduction to the Institute’s activity, made valuable presentations on the national and international IP registration, agreements for disposal of the exclusive rights to registered IP objects, basics of copyright in the Republic of Kazakhstan, and also highlighted recent changes in the IP legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
At the end of the business meeting, the parties discussed the areas of bilateral cooperation in accordance with the signed Memorandum, and also stressed the importance of holding such training activities to raise awareness and legal literacy in the field of IP protection in Kazakhstan.
