National dialogue on improving access to medicines for citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan

On July 31, 2019, in Nur-Sultan, a National Dialogue was held on improving access to medicines for citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in which representatives of SK Pharmacy, the Kazakh Scientific Center for Dermatology and Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Institute of Intellectual Property, and international experts took part in the field of intellectual property, Branch of the Public Foundation "Answer", PF "AGEP'C", ALE "The Central Asian Association of People Living with HIV"

The purpose of the National dialogue: to discuss the steps necessary to optimize the procurement of medicines for citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan, using medicines for the treatment of HIV and HCV as an example.

During the meeting, information was provided:
  • Analysis of barriers to intellectual property that impede access to generic drugs in the Republic of Kazakhstan;
  • Actual issues of the availability of medicines and intellectual property in the region of Eastern Europe and Central Asia;
  • Experience in using flexible provisions of international agreements to lower drug prices: an example of Malaysia and other countries;
  • Study of procurement of drugs for the treatment of HCV;
  • Study on the procurement of antiretroviral drugs for treating HIV infection.
