Representatives of the Ministry of Justice and Kazpatent participated in the Central Asia Regional Expert Level Working Group on Intellectual Property Rights Webinar

The Central Asia Regional Expert Level Working Group on Intellectual Property Rights Webinar: Interagency Coordination for the Protection and Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights was held on January 27, 2021.

Video conference was organized by the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the US Department of Commerce, the US Trade Representative (USTR), the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center (IPR Center), and the US Customs and Border Protection Service (CBP).

Seminar was attended by interested officials from Central Asian countries, including Director of the Department on IPR of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan (DIPR) Meirzhan Tulepov, DIPR Deputy Director Assemgul Abenova, Deputy Director of Kazpatent Makpal Shugaipova, Head of Kazpatent’s IPR Center Amina Almassova and other Office representatives.

Webinar was moderated by CLDP Senior Counsel Nnamdi Ezera. During the meeting, presentations were made by Director of Innovation and Intellectual Property of USTR Michael Buckler, representative of the Intellectual Property Office of the US Embassy in Tashkent Elizabeth Gesson, Chief Counsel of CLDP Steve Gardner, USPTO Attorney-Advisor Jennifer Blank, CBP International Trade Specialist Michael Dolan, Senior Special Agent of the IPR Center Jeffrey M. Schmidt, Attaché on Intellectual Property of Central Asia Dorian Mazurkiewicz, Legal Adviser for International Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property (ICHIP) of the U.S. Department of Justice Scott M. Kerin.

Speakers spoke about the mechanism of work of US agencies in coordinating the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights.

In turn, the participants of the Central Asian countries shared their professional experience of cooperation and interaction in ensuring the observance of intellectual property rights.
