Mazhilis held a retreat session of the on intellectual property issues in Kazpatent

A retreat session of the Committee on Legislation and Judicial and Legal Reform of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the format of a round table on measures to improve legislation in the field of IP protection in the Republic of Kazakhstan was held in Kazpatent on June 22.

The session was moderated by the deputy, chairman of the Committee on Legislation and Judicial and Legal Reform of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan A.T. Kozhakhmetov. The Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan M.B. Beketayev made a welcoming speech. He noted that within the framework of the draft Concept for the development of the field of intellectual property for the period from 2021 to 2025, tasks are envisaged to strengthen the protection of intellectual property rights. And he expressed confidence that the recommendations developed based on the results of the Round Table will affect the effective implementation of tasks in IP issues in Kazakhstan.

President of the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) S.Y. Tlevlessova in her welcoming speech noted that since 2021, a new interstate system of legal protection of industrial designs has been introduced in the Eurasian patent space, which has opened up new areas of cooperation between the EAPO and countries and regions of the world.

The online meeting was attended by international and national experts on IP issues, representatives of government agencies, the Astana International Financial Center, Nazarbayev University, KazGUU, Astana Hub, patent attorneys of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Collective Management Organizations.

Within the framework of the event, consisting of two main sessions "Improving the IP system in Kazakhstan" and "Global challenges: the demand for IP rights", issues of the national system for the IPR protection as well as current trends in international experience were discussed.
