Director General of WIPO Daren Tang visited Qazpatent

On May 28, 2025, Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), paid an official visit to the Qazpatent office as part of the Astana International Forum.

The WIPO delegation also included:

• Mr. Hassan Kleib, Deputy General Director,
• Mr. Habip Asan, Director of the Department of Transition and Advanced Economies,
• Mr. Ilya Gribkov, Head of the Department of Central Asia, Caucasus and Eastern Europe.

During the visit, a bilateral meeting was held with the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Sarsembayev. The discussion was also attended by Vice Minister of Justice Botagoz Zhakselekova, Chairman of the Committee on Intellectual Property Rights of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sholpan Abdreeva, Director of Qazpatent Sabit Akhmetov, as well as Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the World Trade Organization and International Economic Organizations Kairat Torebayev. The parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of the intellectual property protection system in Kazakhstan, as well as issues of expanding cooperation with WIPO.

Daren Tang got acquainted with the activities of Qazpatent, visited the main structural divisions of the institute and talked with the staff.

One of the highlights of the visit was the musical improvisation of Mr. Tang, who performed the composition on a white grand piano located in the office lobby. At the end of the visit, a memorable photo session was held.

The visit of the Director General of WIPO was an important event, indicating a high level of trust and further strengthening of partnership between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

The panel session "Intellectual Property in the Era of AI" within the framework of the Astana International Forum, the guest of honor of which is Daren Tang, will be held on May 29, 2025.
