February 14, 2020 at the International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects (hereinafter referred to as the Center) a round table was held on the theme “Formation of the definition of Green Technologies”.
The round table was attended by industry experts, representatives of business, government agencies, public, international financial organizations and the Astana International Financial Center.
Speakers at the round table were: Ramazan Zhampiisov - Chairman of the Center’s Board, Alexander Bragin - chief manager and member of the Center’s NTS, Yeldos Abakanov - Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Association of Environmental Organizations of Kazakhstan, ALE.
The round table was devoted to discussing the need for implementation and the formulation of the concept of "green technology".
This necessity has matured as a result of the analysis in 2019, the results of which revealed that the majority of businesses are not aware of green technologies and their benefits. Enterprises do not allocate sufficient financial resources for their implementation. There is no analysis and statistics, and some enterprises interpret environmental technologies as green. Everyone understands this term in their own way. Amount 1.6% of enterprises using green technologies in the country.
Representatives from RSE “NIIP” (hereinafter referred to as NIIP), Aydin Artykova, Head of the Development and International Cooperation Division and Altynay Batyrbekova, Head of the Department of Inventions, Utility Models and Selection Achievements, took part in the round table.
Also Aydin Artykova noted in her speech that when classifying certain inventions as green technologies, NIIP is guided by the international classification of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), where “green technologies” cover areas such as general environmental management and renewable energy production sources. To date, more than two thousand inventions in the field of green technology have been patented. NIIP on the basis of Patent law provides an accelerated examination for the grant of a patent for an invention, which includes an accelerated formal examination within ten business days, an accelerated information search within two months and an accelerated substantive examination within three months.
